PupCups at Home for National Soft-Serve Day!

How to Make Your Own Pup-Cup

If the August heat is getting you down and you’re tired of asking Starbucks for a PupCup every time you go through the drive through, then we have the perfect dog-friendly soft-serve recipe to keep your dog in pup-cups forever.

This recipe has been through rounds of taste testing with PetPlate pup, Poppy, and she has finally given it her lick of approval for pups everywhere.

Poppy Before & After

Poppy’s Perfect (at home) PupCup

Ingredients:

  • Greek Yogurt: about 1 cup, but any amount will do!
  • A couple of spoonfuls of peanut butter
  • A handful of blueberries
  • One Sardine (optional)

All you need to do is add the greek yogurt to a freezer-safe (and dog-proof) bowl and then mix in the peanut butter until it has a smooth consistency. Then, add the blueberries and mix with your yogurt and peanut butter. Once it looks well mixed, give your dog the spoon to taste test, and once the sample is gone (approximately .00001 seconds later) place it in the freezer. Note: You can also spread the mix on a lick pad or put in a Kong. Just make sure to do this before you freeze it.

How long you want to freeze it is up to you. For best consistency, and longer licking time, overnight is best. You just want to make sure it is firm, and ideally frozen solid. Otherwise, they will gobble it up too fast and immediately throw it back up, according to Poppy’s mom.

Once it’s frozen it’s ready to serve! P.S. If you are looking for some salty nutrition to add to your sweet treat, you can add one mashed up sardine on top.

Since this is a frozen treat, it can last a few days, so remember to take it away from them after a while, sort of the same way you would a bone. Some dogs may claim you can give them these tasty treats every day, but veterinarians don’t recommend it. While this recipe is a little bit healthier than a PupCup of whipped cream or soft-serve ice cream, you still don’t want to over do it.
